2013 toyota rav4 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. While the 2013 rav4 may look a touch better than the outgoing model, and drive better too, in true toyota fashion it remains remarkably vanilla. the rav4 was introduced to the u. S market back in 1995 as the world's first crossover suv. Since then, three progressive generations have been developed, including the current generation 2006 rav4. The spare wheel is no longer stored on the tailgate but in the more commonly used location under the trunk floor. Despite the changes, it still looks remarkably uninspiring and bland. the 2013 rav4 interior gets some nice upgrades, including a softex leather band that runs the entire width of the dash. While the feel doesn't scream luxury, it does stack up well against the competition, and comfort is good too. on the road, the 2013 rav4 is nice step forward in terms of handling. It's feels far firmer and planted than before. The steering feels a touch rubbery, but braking is good. Despite the improvements, the car still fails to engage the driver. It's better, but not fun. overall, the new 2013 rav4 is a solid improvement over the outgoing model. The optional rearview camera can help the driver spot a child behind the car when backing up. Optional all-wheel drive can improve handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe 2013 rav4 is an evolution of the bland outgoing model. While it has been modernized and freshened, it is still very conservative. Toyota is conscious to try and inject more passion into their vehicles, but understand the ramifications of alienating their loyal crop of current customers. The rav4 is most definitely designed with them in mind. toyota describes the new design as dynamic, sleek, and aggressive. The protruding front overhang looks like a boxer with a swollen lip, and little has been done to portray emotion or modernization from the front angle. Headlights do not receive the leds that have become standard amongst manufacturers, although halogen headlights are now adorned. The roofline slopes back from the front window, with a rear spoiler extending the roofline's arc, as well as enhancing the rav4's aerodynamic co-efficiency. furthering the car's aerodynamic prowess are small vortex generators, molded into the taillight cases and near the base of the a-pillars. Aero undertrays beneath the passenger cabin help smooth and control airflow. These updates improve drag from 0. 334 cd to 0. 329 cd, aiding in improved fuel economy. interiorthe new rav4 interior resembles the rav4 of old, but adds more technology, better quality materials and increased comfort, putting the 2013 rav4 nicely in line with its competitors. It breaks up the monotony of plastic, allowing a more expensive feel to the cabin. the door trim and leather band is distinguished by contrasting colors, including beige, gray, black (which simply doesn't work and looks odd) and terra cotta on the limited model. Softex is a leather substitute that is fractionally cheaper to make. While the feel may be slightly inferior to real leather, it isn't sacrificing much. the steering wheel is telescopic and in the rav4 limited model it is wrapped with leather. The center console is well laid out and all the dials are intuitive. The 6. 1-inch screen looks a little 2005, but at the same time, we appreciate that it comes as a standard feature in all models. the gear lever on the limited model is draped in leather, but in all models, the lower part of the center console is made of a very cheap, flimsy plastic. The sun visors are also the worst quality we have ever seen. They feel like they derived from wal-mart. poor quality plastic continues in various places throughout the cabin, and it feels like it undoes some of the sophistication added by the leather on the dash and door panels. It's like buying a hugo boss suit from nordstrom, then finishing the look off with a tommy bahama shirt. on a brighter note, the push button start on the limited model is a nice touch, and the second row seating is comfortable with decent legroom (37. 2 inches). This is, in fact, an inch less than the old rav4 but the front seats have been granted an extra inch with trunk space increasing, too. With the second row folded flat, cargo space increases by 0. 4-inches, giving it a class-leading total of 73. 4-inches. in general, the 2013 rav4 is a comfortable, pleasing place to be. We just wish they hadn't skimped on the quality of the plastic utilized, as that really neutralizes an otherwise excellent job. driving impressionwhile the 2013 rav4 is a marked improvement over the outgoing model, it still lacks character, emotion and engagement. The more powerful v6 option available in the outgoing rav4 is ditched, with toyota stating they sat stagnant on dealers' lots. replacing the old 4-speed transmission is a 6-speed automatic that uses the last two gears as overdrive for increased fuel-efficiency. fuel economy has been improved, earning an epa-estimated 24/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined with front-wheel drive (compared to 22/28/24 mpg for the old rav4) and 22/2. All-new suv bigger, stronger, and more versatile. introductionall-new, completely redesigned and re-engineered, the 2008 toyota sequoia is bigger and more capable than last year's model. This is the biggest suv toyota has ever made, and it has the most capability. it can tow up to 10,000 pounds and transport eight people, plus cargo. The optional engine, a 5. 6-liter v8, makes more than 400 pound-feet of torque, so the sequoia rarely breaks a sweat in ordinary driving. An available six-speed transmission allows for smooth, low-vibration cruising on the biggest roads. The interior is designed with generous seats, big armrests, and lots of storage for passengers, plus an optional entertainment system for long trips. toyota's comprehensive suite of electronic safety, stability and traction controls, the star system, is standard on all models, as are advanced airbag systems. the new sequoia represents a state-of-the-art rendering of the modern sport utility vehicle. It's built to transport people and their gear, in comfort, across long distances on north american super-highways. It's all about getting people in and out easily, keeping them comfy, and making heavy loads secure and routine. It rides quietly, steers easily, and with three models, two drive trains, and a broad selection of options, the new sequoia can be configured in a variety of ways to meet specific wants, needs and price points. the sequoia differs from the premium land cruiser in that the sequoia is larger, can carry and tow more and is designed specifically for north america. The sequoia is more about practical utility and comfort. It is built alongside the tundra pickup at toyota's princeton, indiana, factory and shares many components with the tundra. lineupthe 2008 toyota sequoia is packaged in three grades: sr5, limited and platinum. Sr5 and limited come standard with the 273-hp 4. 7-liter v8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Platinum comes standard with the 5. 7-liter v8 and six-speed automatic. Also available on the limited are 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels with p275/55r20 tires 920) and captain's chairs for the second row. toyota's star safety system comes standard on all models. walkaroundobviously larger than the previous model, the toyota sequoia is now definitely full size in the domestic american sense. compared to the chevy tahoe, the new sequoia is longer and wider with a longer wheelbase. It's actually designed to look tall and oversized, so as to project strength from a distance. the windshield angle is lower than before, accentuating bulk below the hood line, and larger high-mounted headlamps add an alert look to a cabin-forward design. Exterior mirrors are large, because they have to be, but careful smoothing has reduced wind noise, as does the use of partially hidden wipers that likewise, must be very large to sweep the large front windshield. The rear doors now open 10 degrees wider for easier child seat and passenger access and have three detents, instead of two. from the front bumper to the b-pillar, the sequoia shares a lot of design features with the tundra pickup, along with numerous drive train components. parking sensors enable easier parking and the ability to avoid people or toys lurking in the driveway. interiorthe toyota sequoia cabin is built for passenger comfort, with generous legroom and headroom. Seating is designed for long days of driving, with a comfortable, unusually wide driver's seat with power lumbar support. The seats have soft, wide bolsters and the kind of adjustability that allows a driver to shift around during long drives. the interior is conspicuously wide. With a body longer and wider than the previous model (or a current chevrolet tahoe), more legroom and shoulder room becomes available for people and cargo. the dash is simple and focused, with two central gauges, speedometer and tachometer, flanked by fuel, temperature and voltage gauges. The hvac system is designed to define and maintain three different climate zones, two in the front, and one in the back. We think toyota does a good job when it comes to switch feel and operational consistency when it comes to dials and other touchpoints. two overhead compartments are suitable for sunglasses, and the control strip has sunroof controls. An electrochromic rear view mirror is standard except on sr5, and the mirror contains built-in garage door opener buttons operating on three different frequencies. the sun visors are huge, and they slide on their hangers, providing effective shade for driver and passenger all day long. To that end, the third row seats have almost as much leg room as the second-row seats, and have adjustability features rarely seen in eight-passenger suvs. When the seat is folded flat, large baggage or cargo can be loaded without removing the seat.
